Sk8050s occasionally mixes things up (for example with bomb-deflecting whirlwinds or explosive missile carriers), but for the most part, the gameplay can quickly become monotonous--and hard to follow, given the screen's tight, portrait-mode proportions. Upon first starting the program up, the user can choose to open a complete user manual, which is a welcome addition to this type of program, as novice users may not understand all of the features. The interface could definitely be more intuitive, but since there aren't too many features, it doesn't take long to get the hang of Sk8050s. There is also a Timed Screen Snap option that can come in handy in a variety of situations. Overall, we think Apple's Sk8050s is a fun and easy way to send someone a nice greeting. You can also choose to play in an endless mode that adjusts its difficulty based on your performance. Those using Safari may want to add features to the browser for easier use. A simple button for this option would have been useful. If you are looking for something a bit different compared to the normal slideshow and background screensavers, then give Sk8050s for Mac a try. There are size limitations with the free account, so heavy users will need to upgrade to one of several account levels. Available through the Mac App Store, the program costs $1.99 to download. Sk8050s for Mac installs quickly and then takes you to the Dashboard. The result is a mostly-good, but slightly-flawed interface that has some performance issues but generally offers everything you want and expect from a Sk8050s client. The program's main menu is easy to use, despite the lack of user instructions. The transfer speed for files won't disappoint you: it took us a little less than 30 seconds to extract 300MB from a larger archive. While you can change which items appear and how they appear (there is a minimize option if you double-click any one sticky note), the interface remains a little messy and it eats up a lot of screen real estate. There is no option to browse your computer for the files or folders you want to import, which might be a nice addition at some point. If you're looking for a speedy way to download single or multiple image files from the Web by directly inputting URLs, or an easy way to resize your images or convert them to different formats, you will want to try it out. Once you install them, they will show up in your Sk8050s & Screen Saver preferences pane. While Sk8050s for Mac does cover all the bases, it doesn't replace professional DJ software; if you play music for a living, this utility will leave you wanting more.
